BN Chronicles: Spring ’11

On Saturday March 19, 2011 the Alumni of Beta Nu hosted a 3-man basketball tournament at the pyramid.

We are gathered to honor the service of Gary Sabbatini to our Fraternity over the past 5 decades.  For those of you that are too young to have ever had the privilege of meeting Gary, I wanted to give you the opportunity to learn a little about him.

Gary Sabbatini pledged Delta Sig in Fall 1968.  While attending Fresno State he majored in Accounting.  After graduation he went to work at the IRS.  In 1977 he joined Moore Grider & Co. as a CPA.  In 1984 he earned partner with the firm. Gary retired from Moore Grider in 2001.

In 1970 Gary married Brenda who he had known from Central High School in Fresno.  They had two kids an older daughter and a son, Kerry Sabbatini (Fall 99).  In addition to his involvement in Delta Sig, Gary was also a member of the Fresno Lions Club and Edison Social Club.

Gary recalls the Pyramid back in the late 60′s and early 70′s.  They called it the “Hut”.  It was a small 2 Bedroom 1 Bath house on Jackson Ave. just South of Shaw.  This would be behind the current Kappa Sig location west of the Red Wave Inn.   The house was so small everyone hung out in the garage.   Some of his closest brothers were Kenny Niederfrank, Mark Etcheverry and Larry Melikian.

What the over 30 year old brothers remember about Gary was that he became a rock which we could depend upon.  As ACB Treasurer for nearly 30 years, he helped Beta Nu through some tough times.    Including the house shutting down in the early 70′s for nearly 10 years.  He was instrumental in rechartering in the 80′s and when times got tough he loaned his own money to keep the dream alive.  The brothers of Beta Nu owe Gary our deepest gratitude because without his efforts we would not have known the bonds of brotherhood.
